Ranchero Software: NetNewsWire 3.0d46: Sneak Peak Release: “NetNewsWire / MarsEdit / Software

NetNewsWire is hands down my favorite RSS reader. Ranchero Software, the developer, just released a “pre-beta” upgrade and I love it! It is beautiful. It allows the user to see a preview of the web page in the lower left hand corner of the monitor. It’s like the way you see album art in iTunes. When I add a feed I can choose which folder the feed will go in. The new “combined view” is very pleasing to the eye and simple to follow; it’s very intuitive. I’ve only used the new software for a few hours but so far it has worked well. And that doesn’t surprise me.

EagleFiler: New Software for Keeping Track of Stuff on a Mac

New Software for Keeping Track of Stuff on a Mac

I have been using Yojimbo and DevonThink Pro to keep web archives, PDFs and notes on my Mac. Yojimbo sometimes is really slow and support has been disappointing. DevonThink Pro is complicated and files don’t show up in Spotlight. I am now testing EagleFiler and I like it so far. It is simple. The database is open. The main missing feature is that search terms aren’t yet highlighted but developer Michael Tsai says that’s coming. Michael also responds to issues and questions almost immediately.

I would welcome hearing about the experiences of others.

The Happiness Myth: More Stuff Does Not Lead to More Happiness

Meditations on Meaning reports that more stuff does not lead to more long-term happiness. Any gains are short lived.

Provided we have access to basic necessities (food, shelter, and health care) our happiness levels don’t increase with increases in wealth or social standing. In fact, once we have the basic necessities, every dollar we spend on ourselves – as far as long-term happiness is concerned – is wasted!

It’s also worth reading The World Database of Happiness.

NetNewsWire – Excellent RSS Reader

NetNewsWire

I’ve been using NetNewsWire for years. It is hands down my favorite RSS reader. It is simple, fast and automatically synchronizes to Newsgator so I can check my RSS feeds when I’m away from my computer. It simplifies my life and practically eliminates the need for me to subscribe to magazines. And the software just keeps getting better. I recommend it highly to Mac users.
